Evelyn Nepom

Owner & founder of Kiva Gardens

Evelyn is founder and owner of Kiva Gardens. Her training is based equally in Environmental science, landscape architecture and practical gardening.

Evelyn earned a Baccalaureate of Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo in 1986 and spent for years consulting on environment related public policy to federal, provincial and municipal governments.

Wanting a more hands on and artistic expression to working with the land, she undertook landscape architecture, graduating from Ryerson University in 1992.

Following that she apprenticed for two years with Marion Moore, a British perennial garden specialist who was at the forefront of introducing perennial gardening to Canadians in the late 1980’s and 90’s.

In 1994 Evelyn started Kiva gardens, with the objective to design and maintain simple, beautiful and sustainable perennial gardens. Over the years her practice has evolved to take on some larger and more complex gardens, but the core of her practice remains based in her love of planting and working in dynamic and well used gardens.
